The\ngun had fired, and I was running for my life. At least it felt that way. In\nreality, it was a pop gun, and I was running with about thirty other girls, all\njockeying for positions as we settled in for our three-mile race. I fell into\nmy normal place near the back. I was never a fast runner and never placed\nhigher than a few from the end. Most would question why I kept running if that\nwere the case. Sometimes, so did I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nrace, in particular, was a rough one. As is typical of an early fall day in\nMichigan, it was hot, humid, and sticky. It was hard to breathe; my legs were\naching from shin splints. I fell back a bit and was laboring to keep moving\nforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I heard the approaching footsteps on the grass telling me someone was running up behind me. The blonde girl in the corner of my eye would pass me in moments. This was normal. What I was not expecting was what I heard as she passed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\u201cYou should just give up, you loser.\u201d\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anger\nrushed through me, compelling my feet to move faster than they ever had before.\nImmediately I put my head up, lengthened my stride, and somehow found the\nstrength to push forward and bolt after her. I managed to pass her and raced on\ntowards the finish line, every part of my body screaming. I wasn\u2019t going to let\nher beat me. I crossed the finish line moments later and limped away in search\nof my bag containing water and painkillers, but I limped away feeling triumphant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nwere plenty of times in my four-year high school running career when I could\nhave given up. I had sustained multiple injuries throughout that time and had\nalmost always finished in the back of the pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\nmay have been a bit accident prone then, as well as prone to finish last. I\nalways knew, though, what I was not. I was not<\/em> a loser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthe teaching A Sure Foundation<\/em>,\nAndrew talks about how grace and peace come through the knowledge of God. We\nget to know who we are as we get to know God better. Andrew says in his\nteaching, \u201cWhen God says that you\u2019re a winner, man, agree with him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No\nmatter how many times I came in last or finished only ahead of a few girls in a\nrace, God said I was a winner. It didn\u2019t matter what my circumstances looked\nlike or even the fact that I never did finish first in a race\u2014as a child of\nGod, I was, and am, a winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\nare you. Everything around you could be trying to tell you that you are a loser\nbecause you don\u2019t measure up to the person next to you or don\u2019t have all your\nducks in a row, but that isn\u2019t God\u2019s truth about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. <\/em><\/p>Romans 10:17<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

By\nspending time in God\u2019s Word and practicing communing with the Holy Spirit, you\nwill begin to receive the truth about who you are in Christ into your heart,\nwhich will then translate into the rest of your life. Through diligent,\npersonal study, you will open the door to this revelation and more in your\nlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
