I think prayer is probably one of the most abused and misused things in the Christian life. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We are seeing attacks on the church, the family, and children like nothing we\u2019ve ever seen in<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the history of the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0United States. When fear sets in, some people go to panicking, while others start praying and asking God for revival.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

But many of the prayers I\u2019ve been hearing are not done in the most effective way. I\u2019m not trying to criticize people, but they are praying out of desperation; they\u2019re praying out of fear. They aren\u2019t taking their authority and using it. The majority of people believe\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0just as long as\u00a0<\/span><\/span>they<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>pray, everything is fine. That is not true.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>There is a right way and a wrong way to pray.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Look at what Jesus said when He talk<\/span><\/span>ed<\/span><\/span>\u00a0about prayer in Matthew 6, often called the Sermon on the Mount<\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Jesus felt it was important enough to teach His disciples\u00a0<\/span><\/span>what not to do\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>when praying.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Prayer is not an opportunity to inform \u201cpoor misinformed God\u201d of how bad your situation is.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>It\u00a0<\/span><\/span>seems<\/span><\/span>\u00a0like people\u00a0<\/span><\/span>think\u00a0<\/span><\/span>they\u2019ve got to get their\u00a0<\/span><\/span>request\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to the top of the pile\u00a0<\/span><\/span>because<\/span><\/span>\u00a0God<\/span><\/span>\u00a0just\u00a0<\/span><\/span>has<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>so many<\/span><\/span>\u00a0people asking\u00a0<\/span><\/span>H<\/span><\/span>im for things. In Matthew 6, Jesus goes on to say,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A lot of what people are doing today is nothing but praying out of fear. They think\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0if they start with \u201c<\/span><\/span>o<\/span><\/span>ur heavenly Father<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u201d end with \u201c<\/span><\/span>i<\/span><\/span>n the name of Jesus,\u201d and say whatever they want in between, they\u2019ve said a prayer. No.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>That\u2019s not how prayer works. People are praying with a whole<\/span><\/span>\u00a0lot of unbelief<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a whole<\/span><\/span>\u00a0lot of fear. But according to Psalm 91:5, we don\u2019t have to be afraid of the terror by night<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(<\/span><\/span>that means the deadly plague<\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span>. Psalm 91:10 goes on to say that no evil will befall us, and no plague will come near our dwelling.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I tell you, there is a right way and a wrong way to pray, and a lot of people are not praying the right way<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>For example, people\u00a0<\/span><\/span>may\u00a0<\/span><\/span>tell God they\u2019re fearful and depressed and ask Him to give them joy, peace, and protection.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A key thing about prayer is\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0all of God\u2019s promises about protection have to be spoken<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(Ps. 91:2). You also have to believe He has given you His power. So instead of asking God to do something about the coronavirus, you need to believe\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He has given you power over all sickness and over all disease\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>(Matt. 10:1 and 8), and then\u00a0<\/span><\/span>you\u00a0<\/span><\/span>start speaking to it. There are millions of people around the world who are praying and asking for God\u2019s help<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>b<\/span><\/span>ut they don\u2019t understand God has already given it.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

When I was just getting started fifty-<\/span><\/span>five<\/span><\/span>\u00a0years ago, I would see a few miracles happen\u00a0<\/span><\/span>every once in a while<\/span><\/span>. I would sometimes see the presence and the power of God show up, and I\u2019d see some of my prayers answered. (You know, even an old<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0blind squirrel will get a nut\u00a0<\/span><\/span>every once in a while<\/span><\/span>.)\u00a0<\/span><\/span>But they were few and far between\u00a0<\/span><\/span>because<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I was praying the way\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0is traditionally taught.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Yet God loved me, and I loved Him.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

There\u2019s so much more to it than<\/span><\/span>\u00a0space will allow\u00a0<\/span><\/span>here<\/span><\/span>. So I\u2019ve put what I\u2019ve learned into my teaching called\u00a0<\/span><\/span>A Better Way to Pray.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>This teaching has\u00a0<\/span><\/span>set<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>many people free, including my friend John Tesh, who was miraculously healed of prostate cancer after he took hold of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mark<\/span><\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>11:23 and began speaking to his mountain. I\u2019ve had so many people tell me\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0this\u00a0<\/span><\/span>knowledge<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>revolutionized their relationship with the Lord.
